2021 David Y. Gin Award – Dr. Steven Townsend

CONGRATULATIONS TO PROFESSOR STEVEN TOWNSEND ON RECEIVING THE 2021 DAVID Y. GIN YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD!

Professor Steven Townsend, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Vanderbilt University, has won the 2021 David Y. Gin new Investigator Award for outstanding contributions to research in carbohydrate chemistry by scientists in the first seven years of their independent career.

Prof. Townsend earned his BS in chemistry from Oakland University in 2005. Subsequently, he carried out his Ph.D. research at Vanderbilt University under the direction of Gary Sulikowski. Following postdoctoral studies with Sam Danishefsky at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Columbia University, he began his independent career at Vanderbilt in 2014.

Prof. Townsend’s research focuses on the chemical synthesis of biologically-relevant oligosaccharides and glycoconjugates.
