CONGRATULATIONS TO PROFESSSOR PETER ANDREANA ON RECEIVING THE 2023 MELVILLE L. WOLFROM AWARD!


Professor Peter R. Andreana, in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The University of Toledo, has received the 2023 Melville L. Wolfrom award for outstanding service to CARB and the field of carbohydrate chemistry. Professor Andreana received his Honors Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 1998 from Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada with Professor Herbert L. Holland. He then received his PhD in 2002 from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan under the tutelage of Professor Peng George Wang and in 2002 moved to Harvard University to work first as a post-doctoral associate and then as an NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein post-doctoral Fellow for Professor Stuart L. Schreiber.
In 2005, he returned to his PhD granting institute to begin his independent career and in 2012 relocated to The University of Toledo where he is currently full professor. He is both a member of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and School of Green Chemistry and Engineering. The Andreana Group Research interests are in carbohydrate-based vaccine development, small molecule synthesis and the development of carbohydrate-based immunotherapeutics. Professor Andreana serves on the United States Advisory Committee for the International Carbohydrate Symposium (USACICS) as treasurer and secretary and maintains an active role in the CARB Division.
